Claire Snel is an emerging ceramic artist based on Bundjalung Country, Northern New South Wales Australia. Claire’s work employs a self-taught Japanese Nerikomi technique of clay-body staining and patterning, with an innovative slight of application. Claire employs a variety of glaze and surface decoration finishes in a celebration of colour and light-hearted abandon. Holding a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art from Griffith University, Queensland College of Art, followed by ongoing post-graduate studies with established ceramic artists.

Claire creates with an innovative eye, blending form and function unceremoniously. With a penchant for uninhibited colour choices and technique experimentation, Claire’s pieces are refreshing and contemporary in nature.

Drawing inspiration from her coastal surroundings and daily rock-pool meanderings, Claire’s work reflects a childlike curiosity about the natural world, intertwining elements of biology and anthropological fascination with the creatures of both land and sea. Subtler themes around motherhood and neuro-diversity underpin her art, serving as motivational forces in her everyday practice.
